WAFFENRAD HISTORY IV

edited July 2019 in Rad Culture

PART 4

Waffenrads are solid machines with a weight up to 15-20 kilogramms. They are comfortable and very solid. Some say „Waffenrad is the Mercedes of bicycles”, which is actually true, taking in consideration that decades before the first cars were even designed, Daimler-Puch (later on known as Daimler-Benz and becoming world famous as Mercedes Benz) is already building bicycles.

In many cases over time big black bicycles enter the Austrian folklore and are commonly called Waffenrad (spelled Woffnrodl) as mentioned above. It is an everyday term as much as long coats for example can be called Kaiserjäger in Austria. A true Waffenrad fan although knows exactly which treats to identify before taking a closer look.
