Longterm improper keeping of bicycles - Hosszútávon helytelen kerékpártárolás
edited March 2020 in Radcraft
A few thoughts on that / ide néhány gondolat a témában:
room temperature is best for bicycles / szobahőmérsékleten tárold kerékpárod
don't leave your bicycle out in the rain or cold (winter) for long / ne hagyd kint kerékpárod a szabadban eső idején, pláne télen
if you leave for a journey, take the bike inside (house, flat, a building at least) / ha elutazol, főleg hosszabb időre, vidd be a bicót (házba, lakásba, épületbe legalábbis)
if you leave it outside for long, it will be taken apart/ ha kint hagyod, ki fogják figyelni, és szét fogják kapni
(at least in Hungary / legalábbis Magyarországon)
Another example... Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út, Budapest:
BUDAPEST CHINESE MARKET - LONELY SPOT FOR BROKEN FRAME:
... but what is for sale?
Yes - all very true. I know storage space is an issue for many, but keeping your bike outside greatly shortens it's lifespan. I sleep with my Waffenrad's every night! :0 They are happy and continue as my trusty steeds, never failing to get me from A to B even in the most challenging weather! This brings me to a related issue - if you ride in the rain then you must clean the bike the same day. Water and grime left on the frame and drive train will quickly lead to rusting.
Left alone bicycle in Vas utca (Budapest), 2020. Recently spotted!
Another example found in Budapest, presumably in the VIII. district...
So sad. I remember when this bike was alive and well visiting Zsivago...
What year was that?
Not so long ago - I have seen this bike outside Freyja - the croissant story for about 2 years now. So before that...
Actually the bike has only recently disappeared.
You find more and more of these carcasses around town.
I guess the owners left the country for greener pastures?
Will upload more.
Sometimes the bikes had some sort of sandwich-board on them, which disappeared as the company and venue placing the bike on a certain corner... other times drunks do not find back to their bikes... many quality cycles are left behind by foreign students too lazy dealing with the upload and online marketing (sale) of their prior means of traffic weeks before their official departure. They leave them chained against a pole of fence.
There was a bike on Klauzál tér disappearing step by step, part after part leaving only the rubber tire chained against the fence next to the playground gate after 2 years.

Similar problem in the outer VII. district near Városliget (City Park) in Budapest

Dismantled bicycle - there are so many of these bikes in Budapest! The city has much to learn, one could sell these at an auction or cyclist mechanics could be awarded with free parts (still to be saved) by cleaning crews. Nobody gives a fuck! (except the scavengers)
Another corps at the Military Headquaters of Budapest:
Poor thing - Király utca &Akácfa utca corner. This one has been worked on for months = not much left on it to steal, but often even the tiniest bits come off after a while!
